Magical Madurai & Charming Chettinad

Our special travel plan will take you to the grand Madurai temples and the intimate Chettinad shrines, where nine divine powers who have transformed millions of lives wait to bless you. In these sacred spaces, as you walk barefoot on sun-warmed stone, surrounded by the incense smoke and the glow of a hundred lamps, you will absorb the sacred vibrations of the ancient mantras and partake in powerful rituals that have remain unchanged for 2,500 years.

Whether it is Amma’s motherly compassion at Meenakshi Amman temple or Lord Ganesha’s blessings at Pillayarpatti to removes all obstacles, each temple holds the power to transform your destiny. You can seek Lord Murugan’s courage at three of his sacred abodes, receive Lord Vishnu’s grace at hilltop sanctuaries, and experience Bhairava’s fierce protection in Chettinad’s timeless villages.

Beyond the temple walls, we will take you into the soul of Tamil Nadu, to explore Madurai’s magic and Chettinad’s charm.

The vibrant bazaars of Pudhu Mandapam bazaar adjacent to the Meenakshi Temple, housed in the ancient stone pillared halls offer a unique shopping experience. Heavy with the fragrance of Madurai jasmine and abuzz with life and colour, find rainbow arrays of glass bangles in every hue, intricate woodcrafts that showcase centuries of Tamil artistry and shops offering everything from pooja paraphernalia to colorful old-fashioned trunks. You will also have time to browse and shop for Madurai’s silk sarees, hand-woven cottons, gleaming brassware and intricate stone carvings in other parts of the city.

Madurai’s cuisine, has its own authentic flavors perfected over generations. Linger over lunch in century-old eateries to savor Jigarthanda, Kari Dosa, and other famous Madurai delicacies before moving on to Chettinad.

Chettinad’s timeless legacy of elegance is attributed to The Chettiars, the legendary merchant community, who once controlled vast trade networks across Asia. You will see this reflected in the grand mansions they built, adorned with Italian marble, Burmese teak pillars, Belgian crystal chandeliers, and hand-painted tiles from Japan. With their enormous wealth, they transformed their humble villages into showcases of refined taste.

No journey to Chettinad is complete without experiencing it’s celebrated cuisine.  Your lunch and dinners will provide ample opportunity to savour the time-honored recipes that create some of South India’s most distinctive flavors.

Watch local artisans craft the region’s famous Athangudi tiles by hand, each one unique, using techniques perfected over generations and take home a piece of Chettinad’s artistic heritage. Browse exquisite handloom cotton sarees in vibrant hues, intricately woven baskets that have become symbols of the region, beautifully carved woodwork, and gleaming brassware that echo the grandeur of the merchant mansions. Each piece tells a story of craftsmanship passed down through generations.

This is where ancient spirituality meets living heritage—a journey that touches both the divine and the deeply human heart of Tamil Nadu.

THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE

Experience the three most-visited  cities in India – and see them from a  fresh angle

They’re popular for a reason, the cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Named ‘Golden’ for the immense richness of culture, history and wealth within them, we recommend that clients experience a little bit of each; with Agra, the former capital of the Moghul Empire (crumbling and stately); Delhi, with its unstoppable modern energy; or Jaipur, the desert capital of Rajasthan – famed for having the best bazaars in the country. We’ll ensure your guides are local insiders – from dawn to dusk.

THE HIMALAYAS

Purple, white, black – and the largest mountain range in the world.

For us, there are many ways to experience the Himalayas. To hike to the base-camp of Everest, stopping off at tea houses as you slowly acclimate to the rarified air. We prefer, however, the tranquil spirituality of Ladakh; a region with very few tourists and extremely traditional (albeit welcoming) villagers. Our local guides are villagers themselves and will introduce you to mountain scenery, Ladakhi cooking, and the monasteries of Phyang.

RAJASTHAN

From desert and island to the iconic Blue City.

Frequently, Rajasthan has topped our lists of India’s most fascinating regions. In Jawai you can trek and head out on safari in search of majestic tigers and elusive leopards. Across the deserts of Jaisalmer, you can travel by camel and study the historic Havelis of this historic city. In Jodhpur – the beautiful Blue City – you can stay at some of the country’s most regal Moghul-era hotels, such as the splendid Raas. It’s a lot. Gladly.
